Detroit has seen an influx of hot rappers recently, from Big Sean to Eminem to all the underground elites. From those arise Icewear Vezzo to Sada Baby to now Payroll Giovanni.
Having taken music seriously for over a decade now, Payroll stays in his lane with his gritty bars and vivid storytelling, attracting listeners all around the world with his rawness and authenticity.
Fast forward to 2021, Payroll returns with his collaborative project with Gold and Platinum-selling producer CardoGotWings, titled Another Day Another Dollar. Beyond music, Payroll is known for his entrepreneurial spirit and hustle mentality — which bleeds through into his rap career.
King Ice caught up with Payroll via Zoom to discuss his chain, and overall take on jewelry.
What are your favorite chains to rock?
It's a diamond chain and memorial for a loved one in there. Something real subtle and classy.
Do you feel like as an artist, you have to wear jewelry?
I for sure don't, it ain't necessary. If you’re talking about it, you gotta show it.
How long have you loved jewelry?
I've been wearing jewelry since I was born. I’d have all this on if I wasn't rapping, it's normal.
